photoblog image Bicycle

Bicycle

I got to experimenting with off-camera flash again and had an idea of making a minimalist image of my bicycle, using the flash to overpower the midday light in my the apartment. After a little post processing and converting to black & white I arrived at this image.  Am I happy with the result? Yes I am. Can I do even better? Absolutely, and look forward to trying!

Very cool. Plain black background please!
Hywel Evans: Thanks! Yep that's one of the things I can improve on.

A good experiment, I like the result. Agree with Harry.

Another way: http://www.diyphotography.net/painting_with_light and I am not referring to what the article refers to as 'environmental graffiti'. Many people refer to 'writing in the sky' as light painting. I am referring to lifting an object out of darkness. Look at http://louis.shutterchance.com/image/2011/08/01/saxy-light/ and thetwo pictures that follows that one. The part that one can do in photoshop is a bit long to describe, but will typical help with keeping the background black, like in my examples.
Hywel Evans: Thanks Louis. Yes, I have toyed with that light painting a bit too - great fun. I am clearly going to have to attempt this again, this time controlling the flash from spilling onto the floor.
This is also a good example why one shouldn't use a laptop screen for editing photos, as any slight change in screen angle changes the contrast. The floor was only slightly visible when I uploaded it, but now I see the floor quite clearly... grrr!
Watch this space I guess tongue
The final result is worth all the work...
